MILAN, June 20 (Reuters) – Carmaker Stellantis (STLAM.MI) and iPhone assembler Foxconn (2317.TW) have created a 50-50 joint venture to design and sell semiconductors for the automotive industry from 2026.

The joint venture, called SiliconAuto, will supply Stellantis, including its new ‘STLA Brain’ electronic and software architecture, Foxconn and other customers, the two companies said in a statement.

Hyundai Motor to invest $85 bln by 2032 to accelerate EV plans

SEOUL, June 20 (Reuters) – South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS) said on Tuesday it plans to invest about 109.4 trillion won ($85.4 billion) in the period through to 2032, allocating around a third to meet a “seismic change” in the industry toward electric vehicles (EVs).

Hyundai Motor, which together with affiliate Kia Corp (000270.KS) is among the world’s 10 biggest automakers by sales, also said in a statement that it aims to lift the production of EVs in the United States, its biggest market. EVs will account for 75% of its U.S. production by 2030 from 0.7% now.

Meanwhile, Fisker will start delivering its first mass-produced SUV model, the Fisker Ocean, in the first quarter of 2024, Yicai reported.

WASHINGTON, June 19 (Reuters) – U.S. auto safety regulators are investigating nearly 40,000 Hyundai (005380.KS) Ioniq 5 electric vehicles over reports of power loss while driving tied to a battery charging issue.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s preliminary investigation covers 2022 model-year vehicles after it received 30 consumer complaints alleging a loss of acceleration. The agency said many consumers reported a loud popping noise followed by a warning displayed on their dashboard, and immediately experienced a loss of power that ranged from a reduction in acceleration to a complete loss.
