Transporters said issues began in mid-August following changes to the Vahan system- a national vehicle registration portal. It has become mandatory for commercial vehicles-such as trucks, tempos, taxis, and buses-to provide SLD certificate details during the fitness renewal process.

Many transporters and RTO officials the PTI spoke to view this requirement as unnecessary. They argue it not only delays the renewal of fitness certificates but also fosters corruption, forcing vehicle owners to seek assistance from dealers and RTO agents. Launched in 2011, Gramin Sewa is a para-transit scheme under which high-capacity three-wheelers with a seating capacity of six passengers were given permits to ply in rural areas, unauthorised resettlement colonies, and JJ (jhuggi-jhopri) clusters of Delhi.

“It is ordered that the replacement of the existing Gramin Sewa vehicles shall be by electric vehicles, with a maximum seating capacity of six passengers plus a driver, duly approved by MORTH’s (Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) authorised testing agency,” a transport department order issued on Wednesday said. Source : PTI | Chennai: The plan to roll out six new products, including two electric vehicles under the Franco-Japanese automotive alliance Renault Nissan, at a total outlay of INR 5,300 crore has been progressing and is on schedule, a top official of French car major Renault India said on Wednesday. Renault-Nissan, in February 2023, had announced investments of USD 600 million (about INR 5,300 crore) in India, to bring in six new products, including two electric cars, and an upgradation of their Chennai plant.

India, US for giving push to sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogen in buses

Source : PTI | India and the US have agreed to give impetus to sustainable aviation fuel, promote electrification of medium and heavy-duty vehicles and use of hydrogen in buses, tractors and heavy equipment, said a joint statement issued after the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership dialogue between the two nations. The two nations “welcomed increased investment in each country’s clean energy markets,” according to the statement issued after the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP) Ministerial convened by US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri in Washington DC on Monday.

“While recognising the need to work towards a just, orderly and sustainable energy transition, which prioritises access to reliable, affordable, and clean energy supplies, the (two) sides welcomed the important role that energy trade plays in supporting the national priorities of both countries,” the statement said.
