Jan 19 (Reuters) – Waymo, Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL.O), opens new tab autonomous driving unit, said on Friday it had applied to the California Public Utilities Commission to expand its driverless service in Los Angeles.
A license would allow Waymo, which operates extensively in San Francisco, to fully operate its fleet in Los Angeles, California’s largest city, where it is now testing rides, allowing new rides only by invitation.
The utilities commission did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment.

SAO PAULO, (Reuters) – Stellantis (STLAM.MI), opens new tab said on Friday it is buying a 70% controlling stake in Brazilian automotive services firm DPaschoal, in the automaker’s latest move to expand its presence in Latin America.
Stellantis did not provide details of how much it paid for the stake.
The carmaker, which had focused on selling auto parts to its own car stores in Brazil, will expand its presence in Latin America’s largest economy through the acquisition. DPaschoal’s has 123 stores and 2,800 employees in the country, the companies said in a presentation.

STOCKHOLM, Jan 19 (Reuters) – Swedish battery maker Northvolt is looking to source cobalt, used to make chemicals for electric vehicle batteries, from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the company said on Friday.
The company has trialled material, studied work processes and compared plans to improve both social and environmental sustainability with the aim to find long-term partners.
“I would feel comfortable signing something this year in terms of engagement in sourcing,” Chief Environmental Officer Emma Nehrenheim said in a phone interview with Reuters. She did not give a definite timeframe.

The delivery backlog for the company’s most sought-after fire-fighting rigs now stretches into 2026, part of a record $16 billion backlog for all types of the company’s trucks, which range from waste haulers and cement mixers to tow trucks and airport rescue vehicles. According to the joint report by management consultancy firm Primus Partners and ETB (European Business and Technology Centre), transitioning the internal combustion engine-powered vehicles to electric vehicles through retrofitting presents a spectrum of challenges.

However, with a coordinated approach involving government initiatives, industry collaboration, and public engagement, these challenges can be effectively addressed and overcome, it said.

The Letter of Award (LoA) given by the Uttar Pradesh government has given the company the responsibility to deploy and manage the electric three-wheelers in Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Agra, Mathura, and Gorakhpur, ETO Motors said in a statement.

Notably, ETO Motors has received authorisation to initiate the deployment with a special focus on Ayodhya, coinciding with the inauguration of the Ram Temple, it said.

Source : PTI | New Delhi: State-owned NHAI prohibited the movement of two and three-wheelers on three ‘access controlled’ national highways having connectivity with the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also restricted the plying of non-motorized vehicles, agricultural tractors, multi-axle hydraulic trailer vehicles and quadri-cycles on the said sections citing safety reasons, according to a notification.

The sections include “Delhi-Gurugram section of NH-48 starting from Km 14+300 (starting of RTR flyover) till Km 42+000 (Kherki Daula user fee plaza) in Delhi/Haryana, and NH-344M starting from its junction with NH-44 near Bankoli village connecting Narela, Mundka, Najafgarh, Dwarka and terminating at its junction with NH-248 BB near Bhartal chowk,” it said. (Reuters) – Sweden’s Volvo (VOLVb.ST) said on Monday it had signed an option agreement to sell its Arquus defence unit to John Cockerill Defense, and would book a fourth-quarter operating loss from the deal of some 900 million Swedish crowns ($87.44 million).

TOKYO, (Reuters) – Toyota Motor (7203.T) plans to produce about 10.3 million vehicles globally in 2024, renewing its record annual production for the second consecutive year, the Nikkei reported on Monday.

Stellantis plans some 2,250 temporary layoffs at Italian Mirafiori plant

MILAN,(Reuters) – Carmaker Stellantis (STLAM.MI), will temporarily lay-off about 2,250 workers at its Mirafiori plant in the Italian city of Turin in the coming weeks in response to weak demand, unions said on Monday.
