WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Honda Motor Co said on Tuesday it was recalling 750,000 vehicles in the United States over a defect involving air bags which could deploy unintentionally during a crash.

The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, failing to suppress the air bag as intended, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Tuesday. Vedanta, which more than a decade back acquired Scottish explorer Cairn Energy’s (now Capricorn Energy) India assets, is targeting 300,000 barrels per day (15 million tonnes a year) oil output in 3 years from aggressive exploration campaign, he said on the sidelines of the India Energy Week (IEW) here.

Source : PTI | A consumer panel in Kerala has ordered automobile giant Maruti Suzuki India Limited to refund the price of a car they sold to a customer as its airbag did not deploy during an accident three years ago.

The Malappuram District Consumer Commission issued the order based on a complaint filed by Mohammed Musliar, a native of Indianoor in this northern district. As per the complaint, the car in which the complainant travelled met with an accident on June 30, 2021, and the man suffered critical injuries as the vehicle was severely damaged in the mishap, an official statement said here quoting the commission on Tuesday.

The official said as the norms would kick in from March 2025 both the industry and the associations will get a fair amount of time to exchange a list of products and complete the process of validation and testing (durability, endurance).

The review of the list of tyres is a regular exercise to be carried out by IMC (inter-ministerial committee) for making suitable recommendations with regard to the exclusion/inclusion of the pneumatic tyres’ sizes from the list of tyres not manufactured domestically.

Source : PTI | A provision of INR 928 crore has been made for the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) in the Mumbai civic body’s budget for FY 2024-25. BEST runs a public bus service in Mumbai and neighbouring areas, and supplies power to the island city of the metropolis.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in its budget presented on Friday allocated INR 800 crore as a grant to BEST to meet infrastructure development besides INR 128 crore for procuring electric buses. INR 800 crore can be used for capital equipment, repayment of loans, renting new buses on a wet lease basis, pay revision, day-to-day expenses, the ITMS project, Diwali bonus to employees, gratuities and other employee dues, and electricity dues among others. The USD 1.2-billion facility will start operations of the first phase by March-end and full-scale 1 million tonnes capacity by FY29 (March 2029), two sources with knowledge of the matter said.

India joins China and other nations that are rapidly expanding production of copper, a metal crucial for transition away from fossil fuels. Technologies critical to the energy transition like electric vehicles (EVs), charging infrastructure, solar photovoltaics (PV), wind and batteries, all require copper.

At the post-earnings concall, Tata Motors Group Chief Financial Officer P B Balaji said the company has seen some impact of the Red Sea crisis but “it is manageable at this point of time”.

Source : PTI | ONGC, IOC and other oil PSUs will invest about INR 1.2 lakh crore in the coming fiscal starting April 1 in oil and gas exploration, refineries, petrochemicals and laying pipelines to meet the needs of the world’s fastest-growing energy consuming nation. The investment proposed in 2024-25 is 5 % higher than INR 1.12 lakh crore spent by the state-owned oil firms in the current fiscal year that ends on March 31, according to Budget 2024-25 documents.

Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has a planned capital spending of INR 30,800 crore in the next financial year. This expenditure in finding new reserves of oil and gas and bringing to production discoveries it has already made, is slightly higher than INR 30,500 crore capex in 2023-24 fiscal (April 2023 to March 2024). The consolidated revenue for the third quarter of the ongoing fiscal was up 25 % year-on-year to INR 1,10,600 crore, the company said in a statement.

Source : PTI | Domestic battery material manufacturer Epsilon Advanced Materials (EAM) on Friday said it has completed the acquisition of Johnson Matthey’s LFP cathode technology centre in Germany. The city-based company in October last year announced signing a pact to acquire the Moosburg-located Research and Development (R&D) Centre to tap into the European battery materials’ talent pool and cater to its global clientele.

The acquisition makes Epsilon the first global company capable of providing manufacturers with cathode and anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, which is poised to make India the first country in Asia outside of China to manufacture LFP (Lithium-ion Phosphate) cathode materials, Epsilon said.

WILMINGTON, Delaware, (Reuters) – Elon Musk suffered one of the biggest legal losses in U.S. history this week when the Tesla CEO was stripped of his $56 billion pay package in a case brought by an unlikely opponent, a former heavy metal drummer.

Richard Tornetta sued Musk in 2018, when the Pennsylvania resident held just nine shares of Tesla.
