by WAF Team

“No slowdown, economic or otherwise, should stop you from chasing your dream.” – Dr. Ankur Bhatia

India has lost a youth icon ; A poster boy of entrepreneurship & business success, Dr Ankur Bhatia, Executive Director, Bird Group.

He was born in 1973 to Mr. Vijay Bhatia & Mrs Radha Bhatia. In 1994, at a young age of 21, he steered a JV with Spanish Travel Software Amadeus and launched their software which is till date used by travel agents and Airlines and is a clear market leader.

The Young Ankur Bhatia did his schooling from Modern School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi followed by computer engineering from King’s College, London.

Dr Bhatia ventured into Automotive Retail with Bird automotive, with Dealerships of BMW and Mini brands. They are known for great customer experience and memorable service.

He also launched his company into Fine Hotels with brands like Roseate House at India and UK and also Dusit Devarana.

Bird Electric is a venture which he launched for exclusively distributing Segway Personal Transporters at India.

He was the person behind iSkate, the first natural ice skating rink & cafe in Ambience Mall, Gurugram.

Dr Bhatia was a visionary. His Business style was to recognise opportunities early on, deploy teams, resources, launch & deliver. Thereafter keep fine tuning and eventually control a Lion’s share of market share & mindshare at good profitability.

Dr Bhatia and his younger brother Mr Gaurav Bhatia were one dream team in business to reckon with!

‘He shall be dearly missed for his business acumen, personal warmth and his gracious smile. He was truly ahead of his time. Lots of Prayers for his Soul and Strength to his Family ,’said Anuj Guglani, CEO, World Auto Forum

Dr Bhatia had earlier received the title of Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Liberia in India.

He was on the committees of various industry bodies like the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the National Committee on Aviation, Infrastructure and Luxury Retail.

He was also the youngest elected chairman of the Delhi State Council for CII in 2006-07.

There are several NGOs he was associated with. One such NGO is Sukarya and they work with Women & Children living in Slums at New Delhi.

We at WAF offer our heartfelt deepest condolences to the Bhatia Family and Bird Family.

We would request everyone to respect the family’s privacy as they must be in deep shock right now. Lots of prayers for Dr Bhatia, May his Soul rest in Peace.
