Ather Energy jumps 6%, EV stocks rise after Narendra Modi calls for higher electric vehicle adoption

Source : PTI | Shares of electric vehicle companies ended higher on Monday, with Ather Energy climbing 6 per cent, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for judicious consumption of fuel and increased use of EVs to conserve foreign exchange amid the crisis in West Asia.

Ather Energy shares jumped 6.02 per cent, JBM Auto surged 4.75 per cent, Ola Electric Mobility edged higher by 2.47 per cent and Olectra Greentech went up by 2.16 per cent on the BSE.

Emphasising that the Centre is trying to shield people from the adverse impact of the conflict in West Asia, PM Modi on Sunday called for judicious use of fuel, among other measures, to strengthen the economy.

Addressing a rally organised by the Telangana BJP in Hyderabad, he suggested reducing petrol and diesel consumption, using metro rail services in cities, carpooling, increased use of electric vehicles (EVs), utilising railway services for parcel movement, and working from home to conserve foreign exchange amid the crisis in West Asia.

Meanwhile, Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, traded 3 per cent higher at $104.4 per barrel.
