Source : PTI | Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Saturday flagged off 135 electric sanitation vehicles for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), with 46 of them set to join the sanitation fleet in the Rohini zone.
The vehicles will be deployed in the Rohini, Narela, Civil Lines and Keshav Puram zones, the MCD said.
Wahi flagged off the vehicles at an event in Sector 10, Rohini, and said the induction would strengthen the civic body’s sanitation infrastructure while helping save fuel.
“The inclusion of electric vehicles in the MCD’s sanitation fleet is a significant step towards a clean and green Delhi,” Wahi said.
He said the vehicles would also help make door-to-door waste collection more effective.
Wahi said the electric sanitation vehicles had been inducted under the new electric vehicle policy of the Delhi government and were in line with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s vision of a clean and green city.
The mayor said the MCD was expanding its sanitation resources in a “planned and systematic manner” across its zones and had added modern machines to strengthen cleanliness operations.
He also urged citizens to cooperate with the civic body in keeping the city clean, stressing the importance of waste segregation at source.
Under the new solid waste management rules, waste is required to be segregated into four categories, he said.
Wahi said segregating waste and processing wet waste at source could help reduce the amount of garbage reaching landfill sites.
Local councillors and senior MCD officials were present at the event.
