Thomas Müller is an experienced automotive technology leader and serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). He joined JLR in April 2022 and is responsible for the technical development of the company’s next-generation vehicles, covering both hardware and software.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Thomas Müller holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and a second master’s degree in Business Administration from the Global Executive MBA programme at IESE Business School in Barcelona. He holds dual German and Brazilian citizenship.
Thomas Müller brings more than 20 years of experience in automotive research and development, with particular expertise in chassis engineering, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving. Before joining JLR, he held a number of engineering leadership positions within the Volkswagen Group and Audi.
Prior to JLR, Thomas Müller was Executive Vice President for Research and Development – ADAS and Autonomous Driving at CARIAD, Volkswagen Group’s automotive software business. His experience in software, digital technologies and vehicle engineering has given him a strong understanding of the convergence between traditional automotive engineering and emerging digital capabilities.
At JLR, Thomas Müller initially joined as Executive Director of Product Engineering, taking responsibility for the technical development of new Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. His role covered vehicle hardware and software and supported JLR’s Reimagine strategy, including the company’s transition toward electrification and digitally enabled luxury vehicles.
As Chief Technology Officer, Thomas Müller is now responsible for technology and vehicle development across JLR. His work spans vehicle architecture, engineering, electrification, software, digital technologies, ADAS and advanced automotive systems, supporting the development of the next generation of Jaguar and Land Rover products.
His technology leadership has also been relevant to JLR’s electrification programme. He has been involved in initiatives supporting the development and testing of electric powertrains and battery technologies, including JLR’s Future Energy Lab in Whitley, Coventry, which supports the development of next-generation electric vehicles.
With extensive experience across Audi, Volkswagen Group, CARIAD and JLR, Thomas Müller brings together expertise in automotive engineering, software, autonomous driving, electrification and product development. His leadership continues to contribute to JLR’s transformation toward modern luxury, connected vehicles, electric mobility and next-generation automotive technology.
