Dmitri Dolgov is a globally recognized technology leader, engineer, and pioneer in autonomous driving, artificial intelligence, robotics, and mobility technology. He serves as Co-Chief Executive Officer of Waymo, where he is responsible for overall company strategy, with a particular focus on the development and deployment of the Waymo Driver, the company’s fully autonomous driving technology.
Dmitri Dolgov has been closely associated with the development of autonomous driving for more than a decade. He joined Google’s original Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, which later became Waymo, and went on to hold key technical leadership positions within the organization. He subsequently served as Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering at Waymo, overseeing the development of both the hardware and software technologies behind its autonomous driving platform.
Before joining Google, Dmitri Dolgov worked on autonomous vehicle research at Toyota and was part of Stanford University’s team involved in the DARPA Urban Challenge. These early experiences helped establish his expertise in robotics, autonomous navigation, motion planning, and artificial intelligence. Dmitri Dolgov earned his B.S. and M.S. in Physics and Mathematics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and subsequently completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Michigan, followed by postdoctoral research at Stanford University. His research has contributed to areas including autonomous navigation, multi-agent decision-making, mapping, and motion planning.
As Co-CEO of Waymo, Dmitri Dolgov has played a central role in taking autonomous driving from a research-intensive technology toward real-world commercial mobility. His work encompasses AI, machine learning, perception, prediction, mapping, robotics, and autonomous vehicle control, with the objective of developing a highly capable and generalizable autonomous driving system.
