A Giant of the Indian Automobile Industry Bids Farewell

World Auto Forum (WAF) pays its heartfelt tributes to Mr. Charanjeet Nagpal, Chairman & Managing Director, Prem Motors Pvt. Ltd.

The World Auto Forum fraternity is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Charanjeet Nagpal, a towering personality of the Indian automobile industry, a visionary entrepreneur, and above all, a humble and compassionate human being.

From starting a small automobile spare parts shop in Gwalior in 1981 to building one of India’s most respected automotive dealership groups, Mr. Nagpal’s life was a remarkable story of courage, perseverance, integrity, and unwavering commitment. His journey inspired generations of entrepreneurs to dream bigger, work harder, and always place customers and relationships at the heart of business.

Under his exceptional leadership, Prem Motors grew from a single Maruti Suzuki dealership into a multi-state automotive enterprise spanning Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Haryana. His entrepreneurial vision extended beyond automobile retail into automotive logistics, creating yet another successful business vertical that continues to serve the industry with distinction.

His numerous recognitions—including the prestigious Gwalior Ratna Award, multiple Bhamashah Awards, and honours from the Government of Madhya Pradesh—were not merely awards for business excellence; they reflected a lifetime dedicated to building trust, creating opportunities, and contributing to society.

Beyond his business achievements, Mr. Nagpal was a respected leader within the automotive ecosystem. His active association with organisations such as Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Lions Clubs International, the MP Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and several other social and industry bodies demonstrated his unwavering commitment to strengthening both the industry and the communities he served.

At WAF, we remember Mr. Nagpal not just for the enterprise he built, but for the values he stood for—humility despite immense success, quiet leadership, unwavering ethics, and an ever-present willingness to support and encourage others. Leaders like him leave footprints that endure far beyond their lifetime.

Anuj Guglani, CEO, WAF offered his condolences –  ‘His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt across the Indian automotive fraternity. Yet, his legacy will continue to inspire countless entrepreneurs, business leaders, and future generations. On behalf of the entire World Auto Forum family, we extend our deepest condolences to the Nagpal family, the leadership and employees of Prem Motors, and everyone whose lives were touched by this extraordinary gentleman gone too soon.’

Thank you, Mr. Charanjeet Nagpal, for your immense contribution to the Indian automobile industry. Your legacy will continue to drive us forward.
