An officer of the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS), R. C. Bhargava graduated first in his batch and holds a Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Allahabad and a Master of Arts in Developmental Economics from Williams College, Massachusetts, USA. His distinguished public service career included key leadership roles in the Ministry of Energy, the Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, and as Director (Commercial) at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) before entering the automotive sector.

R. C. Bhargava joined Maruti Udyog Limited in 1981 as Director (Marketing) and subsequently served as Joint Managing Director, Managing Director, and Chairman & Managing Director, leading the company through its formative years. Under his leadership, Maruti introduced world-class manufacturing practices, built India’s largest automobile distribution and service network, and made personal mobility affordable for millions of Indian families. His strategic vision helped transform Maruti Suzuki into the undisputed leader of India’s passenger vehicle market.

Following his executive tenure at Maruti, R. C. Bhargava founded RCB Consulting Private Limited in 1998, advising domestic and international organizations on management, human resources, and business strategy. He rejoined the Board of Maruti Suzuki in 2003 and was appointed Chairman in 2007. Since then, he has continued to guide the company’s long-term strategy, focusing on manufacturing excellence, localization, sustainable mobility, innovation, and customer-centric growth.
