Sustain by Cartist at GMR Aerocity, New Delhi: A Celebration of Sustainability through Art and Upcycled Furniture

New Delhi, September 21, 2024: As the world grapples with the escalating climate crisis, Cartist, a Jaipur-based organization, is making a significant contribution with its initiative, “Sustain by Cartist.” From September 20-30, GMR Aerocity, New Delhi, is hosting this unique exhibition, which showcases art installations, creative activities, and an exclusive range of upcycled furniture, all designed to promote sustainability.

Sustain by Cartist is committed to creating a sustainable auto-art ecosystem that breathes new life into old automobiles and their parts. This innovative endeavor transforms discarded automotive scrap into functional and artistic pieces, blending local craftsmanship with design to offer a unique fusion of art, heritage, and functionality. The initiative aims to reduce automotive waste while celebrating creativity and sustainability.According to Cartist founder Himanshu Jangid, this initiative is an extension of his passion for preserving automobile heritage. With Sustain by Cartist, the goal is to use scrap automotive parts to create eco-friendly, upcycled furniture and art.

Highlight Installations:
Reborn Jaguar: This installation reimagines the iconic Jaguar E-Type, a symbol of automotive beauty, through an eco-conscious lens. Crafted from salvaged parts like gears and rusted exhaust pipes, the sculpture embodies the potential of recycling to combat waste. By repurposing the E-Type, the artwork challenges the viewer to rethink the environmental impact of the automotive industry. It serves as a powerful reminder that even discarded materials can be transformed into something beautiful and meaningful, highlighting the harmony between innovation and sustainability.

King of Indian Roads: The Scrap Ambassador installation reinterprets the beloved Ambassador car, an icon of Indian heritage, using over 1,500 pieces of discarded automobile scrap. This groundbreaking artwork emphasizes the importance of sustainability in an era of rapid consumption. By meticulously assembling auto parts like bearings, clutch plates, and engine pistons, the installation breathes new life into this classic design, demonstrating that beauty can emerge from what is often considered waste.

E-Waste Car: The E-Waste Car installation, inspired by the chip shortage during the COVID-19 pandemic, reflects on our dependence on finite resources. Constructed entirely from discarded electronic components such as circuit boards and microchips, this artwork urges society to rethink consumption patterns and product lifecycles. It stands as a symbol of the critical balance between technological advancement and ecological responsibility, advocating for a circular economy where innovation does not rely solely on new resources.

Interactive Experience: Mai Bhi Cartist
“Mai Bhi Cartist” invites everyone, regardless of artistic experience, to paint a car alongside a Cartist artist. This interactive activity makes art accessible and fun for all ages. Participants can express their creativity with bold patterns, abstract splashes, or personal symbols, turning the car into a collaborative masterpiece and a living artwork.
