Delhi CM to launch fresh batch 200 electric buses on Friday

Source : PTI | Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will flag off 200 additional electric buses on Friday, its third such launch this year, Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said on Thursday.

In a push for green mobility in the capital, the new government, since its formation, has launched around 2,184 electric buses into service, taking the total fleet strength to around 6,300 buses, including 4,538 electric buses and 1,759 CNG buses.

“Delhi is rapidly transitioning towards a clean, efficient and future-ready public transport system. The induction of 200 electric buses and the launch of the Delhi-Rohtak interstate service reflect our commitment to sustainable mobility and improved commuter experience,” Singh said.

In addition to service expansion, a new bus terminal at Madanpur Khadar near Kalindi Kunj metro station has been developed with essential passenger amenities, accessibility features for Divyang passengers, and sustainable elements, he added.

An administrative building at the East Vinod Nagar Depot will also be inaugurated to enhance operational efficiency and staff facilities.

According to officials, a structured and time-bound fleet augmentation programme anchored in electric mobility is currently underway. Under this plan, Delhi’s total bus fleet is projected to expand to nearly 14,000 buses by the financial year 2028-29, further reinforcing its leadership in sustainable urban transport.

Last week, the Delhi government also launched its draft EV Policy 2.0, which aims to promote the adoption of clean mobility through various incentives and regulatory measures. Public suggestions have been invited on the draft for 30 days, after which the policy will be placed before the cabinet. PTI
