Jörg Burzer is a German automotive executive and Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, where he serves as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Development & Procurement. In this role, he is responsible for the holistic development process of Mercedes-Benz Cars as well as the Group’s procurement activities. He has been a member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG since December 2021.
Jörg Burzer was born on January 21, 1970, in Nuremberg, Germany. He studied engineering at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, graduating as a Diplom-Ingenieur in 1996, and completed his doctorate in engineering in 2000. He joined the former DaimlerChrysler AG in 1999, beginning a career that has covered engineering, procurement, production, quality and supply chain management.
During his early career, Jörg Burzer held responsibilities in project pre-development, powertrain purchasing and raw materials, before moving into senior international roles. He later became responsible for production control and logistics at Mercedes-Benz U.S. International in Tuscaloosa, followed by leadership positions covering product and production strategy and supplier quality in China.
In 2016, Jörg Burzer became Vice President and Head of Quality Management at Mercedes-Benz Cars. He subsequently joined the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG in 2019, initially responsible for Production & Supply Chain Management. From 2021 until November 2025, he also held responsibility for Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management at Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
From December 1, 2025, Jörg Burzer took over the Board division of Development & Procurement and the role of Chief Technology Officer from Markus Schäfer. His responsibilities now encompass the development of Mercedes-Benz Cars and procurement, placing him at the centre of the company’s technology and product-development strategy.
As CTO, Development & Procurement, Jörg Burzer is closely involved in the advancement of Mercedes-Benz technologies spanning vehicle development, electrification, software, artificial intelligence, automated driving, sustainable materials and next-generation mobility solutions. Mercedes-Benz has highlighted his role in advancing technology and innovation across its future vehicle portfolio.
His extensive experience across engineering, production, procurement, quality and supply chain management gives Jörg Burzer a broad understanding of the complete automotive development and manufacturing ecosystem. His leadership is particularly relevant as Mercedes-Benz continues to transform its products through electrification, digitalisation, AI and advanced vehicle technologies.
With more than 25 years of experience at Mercedes-Benz and its predecessor DaimlerChrysler, Jörg Burzer is an influential figure in automotive technology, vehicle development, procurement, manufacturing and the future of premium mobility.
