Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Surpasses 500,000 Locally Manufactured Engines

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has achieved a significant milestone by producing 500,000 locally manufactured engines at its state-of-the-art facility in Chakan, Pune. The plant’s emphasis on technological advancements and sustainability has enabled it to meet global quality standards while ensuring cost efficiency. This milestone reflects the Group’s long-term strategy of integrating India into its global supply chain for high-quality automotive components.

Andreas Dick, Board Member for Production and Logistics, Skoda Auto a.s., emphasised that the company’s investment in technology and workforce development has significantly enhanced production capabilities, allowing the facility to deliver efficient and cost-effective powertrains for global markets.

Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO, SAVWIPL, noted that since 2014, the Chakan facility has evolved to meet market demands, producing engines that adhere to global quality benchmarks while contributing to the Indian automotive manufacturing ecosystem. The high degree of localisation in the company’s engines demonstrates its commitment to domestic sourcing and strengthening the country’s industrial capabilities.

The company has placed a strong focus on sustainable powertrain technologies, with its 1.0-litre TSI engine incorporating advanced exhaust emission technology and its 1.5-litre TSI engine featuring Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) for improved efficiency. These advancements align with the Group’s broader objective of promoting cleaner mobility solutions.

With a growing emphasis on localised production, the company aims to further integrate India into its global automotive supply chain.
