Telangana conducts safety audit of EV charging hubs

Source : PTI | Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence Department Director General Vikram Singh Mann on Wednesday conducted an extensive field inspection of EV charging infrastructure here.

The visit covered the rapidly developing Kokapet corridor, including the ChargeZone EV public charging station, as well as a nearby residential enclave, a press release said.

The inspection primarily focused on evaluating the fire safety standards required for the region’s expanding electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, it added.

At the public charging hub in Kokapet, the director general engaged with technical experts to assess the operational safety of high-capacity DC fast chargers.

Key areas of focus included critical failure-prevention mechanisms such as earth-leakage protection, thermal monitoring systems, and automatic shutdown protocols during power surges.

By reviewing these systems in a high-traffic environment, he aimed to identify potential risks associated with public EV infrastructure and ensure that future regulations mandate stringent maintenance practices and reliable fire safety interlocks for commercial operators, the release said.

Mann later visited a high-rise residential complex to understand the challenges of integrating EV infrastructure within residential settings.

This phase of the inspection was particularly important for evaluating fire safety measures in enclosed parking areas and assessing whether existing firefighting systems are adequate to support long-term EV adoption, it said.

The director general emphasised that these firsthand observations will play a crucial role in drafting comprehensive state regulations, the release added.
