MG Windsor Pro Review: Digital Lounge On Wheels

by Abhijeet Singh, Mobility Outlook

JSW MG Motor hit a home run with the Windsor. It entered the electric vehicle space as a lifestyle-focused, executive electric MPV that offered more than just green creds. Now the company has upped the ante with the new Windsor Pro with a bigger battery pack returning a longer range for all the sceptics amongst you. With a starting price of INR 18.09 lakh (ex-showroom), and also available under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model at an introductory INR 12.49 lakh (BaaS) + INR 4.5/km, the Pro variant edges towards customers who want to go longer distances for lesser charges.

Design Has Presence

In profile, the Windsor Pro carries forward its curvy and road friendly design. We love how it does not look intimidating to other road users, and somehow has an air of an efficient and green runabout that Bugs Bunny would drive, and he’s smart. The R18 dual-tone machined alloys and flush-fitting door handles give it a distinct premium presence. Also the flush hands pop out for when parked for you to pull on with ease. A 2,700 mm wheelbase, the Hector Plus only has a 50mm advantage over this, contributes to both visual balance and usable cabin space. The illuminated MG logo, smooth DRLs, and connected tail lamps further add to the drama. Its ground clearance of 186 mm is enough for nearly everything you want to throw at the Windsor.

Cabin Comfort

Where the Windsor Pro really distinguishes itself is inside the cabin. Dual-tone ivory interiors with gold highlights, ventilated front seats, and a 135° recline for the rear seats offers a serious proposition for customers. A large panoramic glass roof extends visual space, and we’re told the ambient lighting in 256 colours customisation is very sought after these days, we still do not see the point yet. The front seat receives six-way electric adjustability, which is super convenient, and passengers also benefit from rear legroom.

There is a 15.6-inch touchscreen dominating the dashboard holds everything from infotainment, to settings, to navigation system, and even some major car functions. The last bit is still a no-no, we do not think headlight on-off or mirror controls should be in a touch screen, bleh. The 9-speaker Infinity sound system is great though, very important if you want to call it a lounge. There is also a wireless phone charger, digital key sharing capability, and a powered tailgate for added coolness. The 579 litre boot is tiny bit less than the standard Windsor, but is enough for most long trips.

Practical Powertrain, Modest Urge

The Windsor Pro is equipped with a 52.9 kWh prismatic cell battery paired to a 134 bhp electric motor, producing 200 Nm of torque. This setup allows a claimed MIDC range of 449 km. In real-world usage the Pro will return closer to 350 km depending on driving style and ambient conditions. When it comes to drive modes, Eco, Normal, Sports, just stick it to Sports and use your smart foot to manage the output. The shove is moreish, and it has plenty of range to stay ahead of traffic and reach on time.

Charging flexibility is decent with 7.4 kW AC home charging support (which takes approx 9.5 hours from 10–100%, ouch) and 60 kW DC fast charging that can top up the battery from 20% to 80% in roughly 50 minutes. MG also includes V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) functionality, allowing the car’s battery to power external devices or even another EV. Yes, you can if you want charge somebody’s EV, and even power appliances on a picnic to cook or brew or whatever it is you think is useful for your outdoorsy adventure.

Technology & ADAS

The Windsor Pro features Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which includes lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with bend cruise assist, traffic jam assist, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. These systems operate with audio, visual, and haptic alerts, to further improve upon safety. And although all these systems are here to support you, there is nothing more important than paying attention on the road at all times. We say this because even after a battery of sensors and cameras, the system is not exactly fool proof yet for our extremely dynamic roads. Please pay attention on the road.

All the grandeur sits atop a structure built with high-tensile and hot-formed steel. The Windsor Pro also comes with six airbags, 360° cameras, all-disc brakes, and electronic stability control as standard adding to assurance.

Smart Tech & Infotainment

MG’s i-SMART suite remains central to the connected car experience. They said there are over 80 features, including remote lock-unlock and climate control to tyre pressure alerts and charging status updates. Integration with OTT apps, voice commands in six languages, and an AI-enabled voice assistant further expands the list. There is also support for custom wallpapers and infotainment themes, underlining the car’s consumer-centric design. Frankly there’s so much that you may not be able to use it all, like ever!

Ownership Model

The Essence Pro variant is priced at INR 18.09 lakh (ex-showroom) under the standard ownership model. The initial 8,000 bookings were INR 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom), but apparently they’re all gone now. Under the BaaS scheme, the cost lowers, but customers pay a per-kilometre battery rental of INR 4.5/km. The offering includes a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner, three years of roadside assistance, and three labour-free services.

MG also offers a buyback assurance at 60% of the ex-showroom price after three years or 45,000 km. This adds confidence for first-time EV buyers concerned about resale value.

The MG Windsor was already a well-judged for family buyers and business users alike; the Pro version just adds more attractiveness to the package. It delivers on interior comfort, safety, and technological integration with the finesse expected from a car costing nearly INR 20 lakh. The Pro’s range and charging speed are acceptable rather than revolutionary, but the overall ownership package, warranty support, and EV-centric features like V2L give it a unique appeal.

And while comfort is unrivalled, it does not offer dynamic performance or aggressive styling for those seeking thrill in their EV purchase. But for the customers buying it for its package, well-done MG.
